I’m Erin and I’m the Director of Marketing & Community Outreach at POGOH. I’ve been at Bike Share for 8 years; it’s been really fun to be a part of an organization from the very beginning. I’ve been biking since I was about 4 years old, and like so many people, it was a really big part of my childhood. But as an adult, I found myself biking less and less until I found a group of people who were passionate about biking as a transportation alternative. I attended a social Friday night bike ride when I lived in Salt Lake City that opened up my eyes to urban biking as a means of getting around without a car. It was affordable, fun, and I got some built-in activity into my day. Needless to say, I saw this job as an opportunity to foster that same experience for more people; to share the joy of biking with Pittsburgh. When I’m not at work, I like to be outside. I’ve visited 87 Pennsylvania State Parks (and counting), and I love camping, hiking, swimming, and long walks with my dog Apollo. Q: What’s your favorite thing about working at POGOH? A: Group bike rides! Q: Who taught you how to ride a bike? Tell us about it! What do you remember about riding bikes as a kid? What did your bike look like? A: My Gram. I learned to ride on my blue Schwinn named Blueberry in her backyard. Q: Where’s your favorite place to ride in Pittsburgh? It can be a route, a destination, a bike lane or road, whatever feels good! A: I love the Penn Ave bike lane in Downtown. It gives me that feeling of living in a big city. You can bike to lunch, meetings, or a night out, all without having to search for and pay for parking 🙂
Q: How do you describe riding a POGOH e-assist bike to someone who hasn’t ridden an e-bike before?
A: It’s like you’re super human. You can be climbing a huge hill, but it feels so effortless. It’s awesome.
Q: What’s your favorite thing about biking in Pittsburgh?
A: The community. I’ve met so many awesome people through biking in Pittsburgh. BikePGH’s Women and Non-Binary group rides, and the Frigid Bitch alleycat are two of my favorite events.
Q: Anything else you’d like to include?
A: You don’t have to be an athlete to ride a bike. You can be, and that’s awesome, but the thing I love about bikeshare is that it introduces biking to more people who may not be biking already. If you’re curious, join us on one of our Community Bike Rides this Summer!
