July Community Bike Rides!

It’s July and summer is in full swing! Picnics, cold drinks in the hot sun with good friends, and of course, bike rides are the things that summer is made of! We have 5 community bike rides planned with our Ambassadors and Staff to show you a great time around town this month.

All group rides are FREE and open to the public. All of the routes are designed to fit all different rider “levels” so you’ll have fun if you’re an avid cyclist or just getting back on a back for the first time in years. No one gets left behind!

If you want to join us, please RSVP via this link.

July 2022 POGOH Community Rides:

Picnic Ride in Schenley Park

Saturday, July 9th @ 10am

4125 Schenley Drive Station

We want to take you on a bike ride around Oakland with a midway picnic at the Schenley Park Overlook. Our picnic spot has a hilltop view in a rolling, green, 456-acre park with benches to enjoy woodland & city vistas. There we will take a break and enjoy some snacks before heading back to our POGOH station by the Carnegie Library in Oakland.

Pittsburgh Major Taylor Cycling Club’s “Scenic Sites of the Hill” Community Ride

Monday, July 11th @ 6pm

Join us for a fun ride in The Hill District organized by one of our 2022 Community Ambassadors, Pittsburgh Major Taylor Cycling Club! We will travel by POGOH and view some of the scenic skyline of the city from the Hill. We will also stop past some historic landmarks located in the Hill District.

The mission of the Pittsburgh Major Taylor Cycling Club is to introduce cycling, develop skills, provide instruction, and to promote overall health benefits to the Pittsburgh community, particularly targeting those communities disproportionately affected by health issues.

World Affairs Council Pittsburgh’s “Rhythm of the Streets” Community Ride

Saturday, July 23rd @ 10am

Penn Ave & S Whitfield Station

As the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh envisions a more globally minded and globally connected world, we believe hopping on our bikes provides a truly unique lens into our region and its intersections with the world. We invite you to get outside, get active, and connect with other globally-minded peers on our community bike ride! There will be stops throughout the ride to take breaks and speakers will join us to address the global history and present day realities of the area. This will be a street ride. Riders of all skill levels are welcome! More details in the coming weeks.

The World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh’s mission is to convene and connect people around global issues to build a competitive, thriving and inclusive Pittsburgh. They create space for nonpartisan dialogue by focusing on the same facts while allowing for multiple truths. Betty Cruz is President & CEO of the Council. She is an avid biker and biked the Great Allegheny Passage and Chesapeake & Ohio Canal with friends in 2020 as a reprieve from isolation. Caito Amorose is Event Manager and has traveled to over 20 countries to find some of the greatest sites for climbing and hiking. Kara Bowen is Communications Coordinator and enjoys spending time outdoors, whether on foot or on wheels.

Ruach Bicycle Club’s “The 412 Steel/Robots/Rivers and Bridges” Community Ride

Rescheduled for Sunday, July  24th @ 12pm

Eliza Furnace Trail & Swinburne St Station

Join us for a fun ride in Homewood organized by one of our 2022 Community Ambassadors, Ruach Bicycle Club! This ride displays Pittsburgh’s Steel mill past, to its technology based future. You will ride through the neighborhood’s where it all began and cross bridges that connect us, not only as a city, but also to hopefully bring us together as an interactive, and engaged community.

Ruach’s goal is to provide an enjoyable and one-of-a-kind STEM biking and education experience for youth. Through hands-on mentoring, STEM programming, riding, and healthy foods students will experience the ride of their lives.

Steel Rite Rollers’ “Highland Park Loop” Community Ride

Rescheduled for Sunday July 31st @ 12pm

Penn Ave & S Whitfield Station

Peace and Light. Please join Steel Rite Rollers on a slow roll from the East Liberty POGOH share station to Highland Park and back. This ride is a family-friendly, no-drop, community bike ride that encourages all ages and experience levels to hit the streets with us.

We will depart from the POGOH bike share station on Penn Ave & S Whitfield across from Social Status. From there we will head up North Highland Ave all the way to the Entry Garden at Highland Park. Then we will make two loops around the park and take North Negley Ave back to the station.

We hope you can join any of our upcoming rides. If you want to ride a POGOH bike for any of our rides you can fill up this form. These events are no drop rides designed for all ages and abilities.
